Microaggressions are statements, actions or incidents regarded as an instance of indirect, subtle or unintentional discrimination against members of a marginalized group. Microaggressions negatively impact professional relationships and workplace environments. Participants will learn strategies to improve relationships and communication to respond to microaggressions. This two hour training is part of a 12 hour cultural competence training. Participants will be introduced to various forms of racism.
Participants will identify how covert/overt prejudice interferes with the peer relationship. identify an area of cultural competency that needs improvement, and identify one strategy for beginning this change. Participants will be introduced to various forms of microaggression. Participants will learn empowering language to use when receiving or responding to microaggression as a peer professional.
