FOR-NY launched its first Community Asset Mapping – Recovery Community Organization Training on June 29th at the Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services in New York City. Hosted by the Alumni Association of NY, more than 50 people representing all five boroughs attended this new three-hour training.
WHAT IS COMMUNITY ASSET MAPPING?
Community Asset Mapping (CAM) training focuses on assessing and maintaining inventories of strengths, assets and other resources that might be beneficial to building partnerships with the recovery community, as well as provide ongoing engagement strategies with allies of the recovery community.

FOR-NY will be bringing this training to communities throughout the state in the coming months. Join one of the existing RCOs listed below or attend and begin the process of creating one in your community.
- Finger Lakes Region, Rochester: August (date to be announced) FOR-Monroe
- Capital District, Location to be announced: October (date to be announced) FOR- Albany, Breaking Barriers, FOR- Rensselaer, RAIS, FOR-WW, CPR
- Mohawk Valley, Syracuse/Utica: November (date to be announced) FOR-Mohawk Valley, FOR-Onondaga
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This training is designed primarily for Recovery Community Organizations (RCOs), but can also benefit anyone who wants to learn about resources available in their community to help individuals and family members get into and sustain recovery. The training provides 3 credit hours approved by both the NYCB and NYCA for recertification for Peer Professionals.
