YOUTH VOICES MATTER NY (YVM) is excited to introduce the opening of the latest youth recovery community meeting in Rochester, New York. YVM leader Carlee Hulsizer led the discussion on Friday, May 25th, as the new meeting was officially kicked off. YVM has been developing a new Youth Recovery Community Organization (YRCO) in the western region. This meeting will serve as a base for the new YRCO.

YVM-NY held this first meeting at a local Recovery Fitness Center, Rocovery Fitness. YVM has been working with Rocovery Fitness co-founder Yana Khashper to expand recovery services in Western New York. Rocovery Fitness invited Youth Voices Matter to use their location to launch the new YRCO. The meeting is different from a traditional mutual-aid meeting because all are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Through many recent community listening forums and meetings facilitated by YVM, youth and young adults have been able to voice what is needed for them to confidently sustain a life in recovery. The young adults made clear their desire to have more community activities available to them involving other young adults who share their passion for recovery. This meeting serves as a hub for young adults to gather together, share experiences, meet new peers, and plan out future activities and events.

The meeting will take place every second and fourth Friday of the month. Please join Carlee at the next meeting, Friday, June 8th, from 6:00-7:30pm. Friday, June 22nd YVM will be hosting our first event, Game-Night. To find out more please follow on Facebook YVM-NY. For more information, contact Carlee Hulsizer at [email protected].
