This 10-hour, self-paced asynchronous course (10 credit hours) provides a practical overview of Motivational Interviewing (MI) and how to apply it with justice involved individuals across real-world criminal justice settings. Participants will learn the core MI framework and skills, then practice using MI during everyday contacts to build engagement, reduce resistance, strengthen commitment to change, and support pro-social goals that improve outcomes over time. The course also expands on the growing role of peer support and peer informed approaches in criminal justice highlighting how peers can strengthen rapport, bridge trust gaps, improve follow-through with services, and reinforce change efforts alongside professional staff.
