Introduction to Trauma-Informed Care
This six-hour Trauma-Informed Care training equips Certified Recovery Peer Advocates (CRPAs) and Certified Addiction Recovery Coaches (CARCs) with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to recognize the widespread impact of trauma and integrate trauma-informed principles into recovery peer support practice. Participants explore the differences between stress, trauma, and PTSD; examine the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) study; and learn to identify triggers, re-traumatization, and coping responses that may influence recovery. Through guided discussion, case studies, and mindfulness-based exercises, participants develop strategies for creating emotionally and physically safe environments, fostering trust, and strengthening recovery partnerships. Emphasis is placed on ethical responsibility, self-awareness, and the prevention of vicarious trauma through self-care planning.
